More things!

So, today has been a pretty nice day. I've gotten a lot of things done. I thought I'd try to save the rest of the pictures I took of some of my things for another day, but I'm procrastinating on some homework, and what better way to do it than to blog.

So here are the rest of my extra finds while thrifting. I think next week I'll have some pictures of the real deal stuff to show you. But for now we get to see the weird stuff that ends up in my cart while thrifting.

The first would be this jar thing. I have a thing for jars with corks. And I got this one, and another small one which I'll post later. I use it to water my plants at the moment... not to sure where it'll end up.

I also found this- a clarinet! I've been wanting one for a very long time. I've played clarinet since grade 8 and thought it would be nice to have one. However, they're stinkin' expensive and had concluded I would never have one. One day I walked into the thrift store and there it was! For $20! It plays just fine, though it's a bit old. But old never hurt anyone as far as stuff is concerned.

I found this lamp in our basement, and claimed it. However, it was missing a shade. We went thrifting in Barrie recently, and I found the perfect yellow shade for it. Unfortunately, I left it to Aj to look after it while I tried some clothes on and we lost it. So instead, I have this neat blue one- which I like almost as much as the yellow one.

And that's all. For real this time!

I'll definitely have more next week.

Belt Mat

After I wrote my last post, I felt inspired to finish off some ongoing projects I had.

The one I'm going to share with you, was my belt mat/rug. I made it for me to put my shoes on in my future home. I got the belts from a local thrift store during a bag sale. The bag cost me $5, and I had 6 belts, a few sweaters and my new purse. Pretty sweet deal.

I got the idea off of Pinterest. Yes, I admit, I often waste my time perusing things like rugs, and teapots. This is the original picture.

I was a little concerned that 6 belts wasn't enough- I could have sworn I bought more...but I cut them to fit onto my backing (which I'll get to in a minute), and they fit perfectly. It's small, but I have small feet and I don't own many pairs of shoes!

For the backing I used an embroidery canvas- it's thick and it was a perfect size. I spray adhered each piece of belt onto it first before stitching them down. It held them down while I sewed. It went really quickly, and I'm happy with the results.....which obviously aren't as perfect as the Pinterest version. But mine will do the job, and I like it :)

Thrifting House Things.

Well. Getting ready to move out has been pretty crazy, but fun. I have almost everything I'll need. I have all my dishes, and appliances.... too many probably. And most of it I got from the thrift store, or they were handed down to me.

Thrifting was the best. Finding silly things, useful things, some really nice things. The problem I have usually, is that I find too many things.

Since most of my kitchen and living room stuff is packed up right now, I thought I'd show you some of the extra stuff that I found while thrifting. The stuff that I don't really need.... I don't really need kitchen things at the moment, but when I unpack them I promise to show you some of my cool finds.

I wanted to get some cookbooks so I can cook my self fabulous meals. HA. We'll see about that. On my current budget, I'll probably be eating KD. I found some pretty sweet cookbooks though, and some that are just wacky. Like my Campbell's soup cookbook. It's all recipes that include soup. Or my 'Art of Chinese Cooking' cookbook, which will probably be too difficult for a beginner cook like me. Anywho, here they are in all their stacked up, unused (by me) glory.

The second cookbook from the top, was actually a school spelling primer that someone pasted their recipes into! I got it from a museum for a twonie, and it's from the 30s. Pretty cool!

The other thing I've been wanting to have for my home, is houseplants. I have the plants- thanks to Grandma. But didn't have anything to put them in. So I found some bowls, and pots for planting.

My first plant is aloe! I love aloe. I'm pretty white, which means I get sunburnt in like 10 seconds. So, aloe will be a nice thing to have around.

My brother actually gave that pot to my mom for Christmas one year when he was tiny. My mom kills plants, so I stole it.

Andrew gave me this tiny Jade plant when we first met. It's a branch off of his family's Jade tree, which has been around for a long time. Everyone's got a bit of it! I found this bowl at the Re-store.

The last thing I wanted to share with you today is really cool. I asked Aj to make me something to hang my jewellery on and he did. It's pretty neat. It keeps me organized, which has been a problem for me since...well since I was born.

I have a lot more stuff that I'd like to share, so I'll keep you posted as I find things.
