Painter's Table Build with Dad

Me and my dad built a painter's table together last weekend. I would try to write a DIY instructable for it, but I mostly didn't know what was gong on. I sanded a lot, and used some big tools way too big for me, but that was awesome. Plus got to spend a day with Dad doing a super cool dad thing.

I tried to stain it but that didn't go too well. So we'll see. I'll show you it in my room once it's all aired out and I get it set up in here. Also, I get to decorate my desk at work tomorrow so that's exciting. & I got business cards too! You can see a picture on Instagram. https://instagram.com/hayleypowling/

New Bedroom @ Dalriada & Work Update

Honestly I took these pictures right when I moved in and it looks like a disaster now. But that's how things generally go with me.

I moved home at the beginning of May. You can pm me if you need to ask questions. But if you don't I'm happy to avoid answering them longer.

So anywho, I took Maris' old room. Painted over the magenta with a plain ole white.

Camp stuff & blankets. And some weird bits and bobs Maris left behind for me.

My grandma made that sweater. I love her sweaters. They're the ultimate.

My fav parts are my blankets. The quilt in this one is made from WWII scraps by my great gran. and I have a few of her other blankets. I love blankets. I've always said that when people visit me, I want them to leave saying, 'wow, she has so many blankets'.

Aj gave me this painting (on loan), and it's my fav thing ever.

Also - in the title, Dalriada is the name of our house! cool.

Also I started work and it's CRAZY, but awesome. I like it. I'm a receptionist at the military hospital in Borden, and it's a whole other world. I find it absolutely fascinating, and my position is way above my head but that's okay. I'm learning a lot and I think I'm picking it up quickly.

So yeah!

xoxo
hope you're enjoying your week.

Solo Camping Trip & Photo Dump

Hey ! Here's a bunch of photos - if you follow me on Instagram you've probably seen most of them (sorry), but I'll write a bit more than I do on Instagram here.

Our little Maris graduated. Crazy! Off to highschool. She's super tough, and I admire this beautiful woman (who also just got baptized which is awesome).

Our fam went camping for one night out of nowhere a week or two ago, and it was fun. I love these guys. They're the best. And they're also kind of insane. But that's okay.

(This shot's from her baptism)

Here's David before he was baptized. David's the best.

Me and this guy have had some really nice visits lately. Got some grilled cheese and milkshakes at this cute little diner (Bathurst/Dupont in case you're wondering).

Ope. Here's the pictures from my camping trip. I decided before I start work (monday!!!), to go on a solo car camping trip. I really wanted to do a canoe trip or a hiking trip, but couldn't really afford to rent the canoe (I haven't been working for two months. WHAT), and my mom was scared I'd get eaten by a bear and convinced me that car camping was better.

So I pretty much just drank beer, ate hot dogs and cookies and chips and other garbage foods.
I also did a crazy 4 hour hike that goes up and down and up and down 1200ft. called the Centennial Ridges Trail. If you're ever close to there, (km 43 ish on hwy 60) you should do it. I don't have any pictures but it was amazing.  I also did a shorter 5k hike at Booth's Rock Trail, which was pretty similar to Centennial Ridges, just a bit shorter and easier. It was also awesome. And that's where the pictures are from.

I did a wee painting while I was there, it was sweet. The sun dried the oil in no time. I used Liquin (a fast drying medium), and not even joking it was dry in like twenty minutes.

Here's a cute curry I made. It's cute cause it's pink I guess. The resulting gas wasn't as cute.

The campground was kind of funny. I was expecting like backwoods camping, but I got an electric site for my cooler and to charge my phone so my mom knew I was alive. So I was mostly surrounded by RVs and campers, and the people across the way from me had a microwave. A microwave?! Yeah. And it was right after Canada Day, so everything was decked out. And I'm pretty sure everyone in the park had tattoos and smoked. But so did I so I fit right in.

I also had to borrow my mom's ten person tent. It's 8 or 10 I can't decide. It's huge though. I was so tiny in it, so much space. But it was good.

Stick and poke tattoo, supposed to be 'MOM' but it's kind of upside down so it looks like wow. Which is also fine. Best response to it so far has been straight out, 'Wow that looks like shit.'

Another grad pic of my dad and Maris.

Had a lovely rainy day visit with Stef & Kieran. I'll be doing that more.

Also cute kid pic of me.

And last night we hung out with the gang in Alliston and went to some old haunts (not mine), and had a good time.

So yeah! That's it I think. I start work monday so wish me luck and you can laugh at the idea of me trying to look like a receptionist and not someone who doesn't shave her legs or wear a bra most of the time. Should be good!
